Description
The Barn at Hill Farm is a Grade II listed building, originally constructed in the early 19th century with a later 19th-century extension. It has been converted into a house around 1990. The barn is built from squared and coursed limestone and features stone slate roofs on the north and west sides, while the south and east sides have concrete tile and clay tile roofs, along with inserted stacks. The barn has a five-bay layout with a former central threshing floor. An attached cartshed and granary range projects to the east from the northern end, creating an overall L-plan.
The barn features a timber lintel over glazed double doors with external hinges and a ventilation slit on the north side of the west elevation. The cartshed and granary range has a weatherboarded south elevation with timber casements. The ground floor is recessed behind posts that divide the former cartshed bays, and the easternmost bay is constructed of stone with a window above the door. There is also a gable-end door leading to the former first-floor granary. Inside, the structure has softwood trusses with bolted collars in the cartshed and granary range, while the barn retains its original side-purlin roof. The Barn is included for its group value with Hill Farmhouse and the stable range to the south.
