Description
Hillfoot Cottage is a detached cottage, possibly dating from the early 18th century, though substantially modified in the 19th century. The exterior is constructed of large, coursed and squared limestone blocks, topped with a stone slate roof. The cottage has two storeys and an attic, with two windows visible from the front. At ground floor, a two-light steel casement is set under a hood, replacing a former doorway, and a two-light chamfer mullion casement with rectangular leading and a hood. The first floor has two two-light casement gabled dormers. A stack, originally located on the right side, has been rebuilt using concrete blocks. The right gable return features 20th-century single-light casements on both ground and first floors, while the left return has a two-light chamfer mullion with rectangular leading and a hood, finished with a wooden lintel. A lean-to addition with a 20th-century door is also present. The rear of the cottage contains various window openings. While the details suggest a 19th-century appearance, the steeply pitched roof and style of the stonework indicate a potentially earlier origin.
