Description
The garden pavilion or store at the Gyde Almshouses was built in 1913, likely designed by Sidney Barnsley. This small square pavilion is set into the roadside embankment and features a pyramidal roof. It is accessed from the road by steps. The structure is made of coursed and squared limestone with a stone slate roof. At the upper level, three sides have two-light flush-chamfered mullion casements with plain glass, while the east front has a deep-set plank door. At the lower level facing the road, there is a recessed panel with a moulded edge that reads: 'THE GYDE ALMSHOUSES. These almshouses were endowed and built by Edwin Francis Gyde, 1913'. A simple gate leads to a set of steps made of square-edged stonework, which includes three quarter-landings and is enclosed by dry stone walls. This pavilion is a carefully detailed addition to the group of ten almshouses.
