Description
The White House is a Grade II listed building located in Sedgeberrow, originally a barn that has been converted into four agricultural dwellings, now functioning as one house. It dates from the 17th century and was likely converted in the mid-19th century, with some alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with painted brick infill set on a tall painted rubble and brick plinth, featuring coursed limestone rubble end walls and some weatherboarding at the gable ends. The roof is half-hipped and thatched, with two roughcast brick ridge stacks.
The building consists of three framed bays aligned east to west, with the central bay that was once a wagon bay featuring opposed cart entries. It is two storeys tall, with the framing showing two and three irregularly sized panels from the sill to the wall-plate, along with long straight braces in the lower corners of the outer bays.
On the south front elevation, the windows are 20th-century casements, including six 2-light windows, a 3-light window, and a single-light window on the ground floor, as well as two 3-light windows, three 2-light windows, and a single-light window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a continuous 20th-century lean-to addition that includes a glazed porch leading to the main entrance, which features a glazed door. The building is said to have served as the barn for No 1 (Willow Cottage) and No 3 The Yard, which was originally a farmhouse.
