Description

Mill Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed, with painted brick and rendered infill between limestone rubble walls, and limestone rubble end walls. The roof is thatched, with a half-hip at the west end and an 18th-century brick stack along the ridge. The house has two framed bays aligned east to west, featuring a large chimney on the west end. It is a single-story building with an attic, incorporating dormers. The timber framing is characterised by three panels from the sill to the wall plate. The north front has three ground-floor, two-light, 20th-century casement windows. The main entrance is located at the west end, next to the chimney, and includes a 20th-century hipped-roofed thatched porch supported by timber posts and a 20th-century door. Dormers are visible in the gable ends. The south elevation features an eyebrow dormer with a two-light casement, and has a lean-to addition with a catslide roof, a 20th-century door, and flanking windows. The interior is reportedly notable for its large fireplace.
