Description

Wincott is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement walling set on a rubble base, topped with a thatched roof that is hipped at the north end and features a brick ridge stack. The house consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with a large external rubble chimney and a circular bread oven located at the north gable end, which is now enclosed by a single-bay addition that may date from the late 17th to early 18th century and has been partly rebuilt in the late 19th century.

The building is single storey with an attic that includes a dormer. The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a collar and tie-beam truss supported by two struts at the south end. Some timber is visible in the additional north bay.

On the east front elevation, there is a flat-roofed 19th-century bay window in the north bay of the original structure, which features a moulded cornice and a pair of plain sash windows. The ground floor of the south bay has a rectangular light, and above the bay window is an eyebrow dormer with a three-light casement. The main entrance in the south bay has a 19th-century door with four flush panels. Part of the bread oven is visible where it meets the northern addition. There is an attic light at the south end, and the north side of the additional bay has a bay window similar to that in the front elevation. A 20th-century single-storey addition is located at the rear of the south bay. The interior is reported to have been altered, with the fireplace blocked.
