Description

Willow Cottage and No 1 is a farmhouse that has been divided into two dwellings. It likely dates from the late 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century and mid- to late 20th century. The building is timber-framed with rendered infill, partly roughcast, and features a steeply-pitched machine-tiled roof with a brick ridge stack at the east end. The structure consists of three framed bays aligned east to west and is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The north front elevation shows that No 1 occupies the central and west bay, featuring two rectangular 20th-century windows on the ground floor. Above the central bay is a gabled dormer, possibly from the 17th century, which has a 2-light 20th-century casement window. In the south bay, there is a 20th-century lean-to timber-framed porch with a partly glazed door, a leaded square light to the left, and a fully glazed 20th-century door. No 3 occupies the east bay and has a ground floor 3-light casement window with a plank weathering, along with a similar gabled dormer as seen in No 1. This bay also features a lean-to porch supported by timber posts and a half-glazed door. The attic windows are located in the gable ends, and at the east end, the attic window has been integrated into an original oriel window with moulded brackets and sill. There are 20th-century additions at the rear.

Inside, No 3 has a chamfered cross-beamed ceiling and a large fireplace that includes a bread oven. The interior of No 1 is reported to retain some original features.
