Elmfield and Attached Rear Garden Wall and Outbuildings

Elmfield is a house dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of squared, coursed limestone with ashlar dressings, ashlar gable stacks, and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring a symmetrical three-window range. The double-fronted façade includes pilasters, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course, along with coped gables and moulded stacks. A late 19th-century ashlar porch, which has a cornice and blocking course, features a round-arched doorway with keys and a two-panel door. This is flanked by two-light ashlar bays with two-light casements. The first floor has 8/8-pane sashes and a central 6/6-pane sash, along with two gabled dormers that have horizontal sliding 6/6-pane sashes. At the rear, there is a narrow gabled extension above the stair. Inside, the property features a through hall divided by a segmental arch leading to a rear open-well stair with curtail and stick balusters, as well as stone fireplaces with reeded surrounds and roundels. The property also includes attached side garden walls, east stables with double gates, and a northwest rear single-storey service range, all built with similar materials.
