Description

Hermitage Cottages are a terrace of four houses, now appearing as an attached pair, dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed from coursed, squared limestone rubble with brick ridge and right-hand gable stacks, and have a slate roof. The design incorporates a double-depth plan, including a rear service range. The right-hand gable has a coped detail with moulded kneelers. The central entrances originally featured segmental pointed heads, leading to internal doorways, though now have 20th-century replacement doors. The windows are stone-mullioned, with flat heads on the ground floor and segmental pointed heads on the first floor, containing casements with a horizontal bar. Raking dormers extend below the ridge and contain two-light casements. Number 58 has a later 20th-century casement window inserted on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. Number 56 was separately listed on April 25, 1977.
