Description
5 and 6 Quarr Barton is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates back to the 17th century and was remodeled into two cottages in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building was altered and extended to the left in the later 19th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble, with pebbledash and render, and features steeply-pitched double-Roman tiled roofs. There is a brick stack to the right of No. 5 and stone coping with a moulded kneeler on the left gable end. Originally, it had a two-unit plan and is now one storey with an attic, presenting a three-window range.
No. 6, on the left, has late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sash windows, including one in a half dormer, and a mid-19th-century one-window extension to the left with 2-light casements and a 20th-century porch. No. 5, on the right, features a central 20th-century porch and flanking late 18th or early 19th-century two-light flat-faced stone-mullioned windows, along with 2-light casements in the half-dormers. The interiors have not been inspected, but No. 5 is noted to have a 17th-century arched timber frame at the door and a chamfered axial beam inside.
