Description

No. 12 Quarr Barton is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 17th century and a remodelling of the interior in the late 20th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with stone dressings, and has an ashlar gable stack and a pantile roof. Originally, it comprised two rooms arranged in a parallel plan, featuring a large heated room to the left of a smaller, unheated service room. The house is single-storied with an attic, and has a two-window front. A central, Tudor-arched, chamfered doorway is flanked by a single-light window on the right and a three-light mullioned window on the left, all with recessed chamfers and label moulds. Quoins are present. The windows have metal casements with turn buckles, and there are two 19th-century gabled dormers. The gable has timber lintels and contains a small attic window to the left of the ashlar stack. The interior was extensively remodelled in the late 20th century. In the late 17th century, the house was remodelled as part of a pair of houses of similar style and under the same roof, the other being No. 8 Quarr Barton, which is included under No. 4 Market Hill.
