Description

The Elms is a house dating from the early 18th century, constructed from squared coursed ironstone and limestone, with a brick dentil cornice and a thatched roof featuring flanking brick stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with two bays. The entrance, located in the right bay, has a frame with panelled wooden pilasters, a flat moulded hood, and a four-panel half-glazed door with an overlight and panelled reveals. To the left is a sash window with sidelights and a wooden lintel. The first floor features three-light casement windows with wooden lintels. The gable ends are coped and have kneelers.

Attached to the right is a 19th-century extension made of brick with a slate roof, also two storeys and two bays, featuring three-light casement windows with wooden lintels on both floors. The interior of the original house was remodelled in the 19th century but retains chamfered spine beams.

Adjoining the house on the right is a barn that is part of the original 18th-century structure. It is built of cob on a stone plinth with a corrugated iron roof and a brick stack, consisting of three bays and featuring a two-light casement window with a wooden lintel in the left bay. The barn's interior retains its original roof structure. There is also a projecting extension from the left side at the rear, likely from the 19th century, with a rear wall of cob construction and an open front supported by square brick columns beneath the corrugated iron roof. According to the deeds, the house is said to have been built around 1742.
