Lickhill House

Lickhill House, formerly known as Rolands Farm, is a house located on Lickhill Road in Calne. The building has deeds dating back to 1681, suggesting it was likely constructed earlier. It was partially refronted in the mid-19th century and underwent alterations in the late 20th century. The house is built of squared, coursed limestone with brick ridge and gable stacks, topped by a stone slate roof. It features a two-room plan with an early 19th-century central-entry layout, which was remodeled from an earlier structure. The house stands two storeys high and has a window arrangement of two on the left and three on the right. The left-hand section has a blocked doorway and timber lintels above 20th-century casements. The right-hand section, which has been refronted and is slightly taller, is double-fronted and includes a round-arched doorway with a fanlight, a round-arched first-floor window above with four panes, and paired, horned mid-19th-century sash windows on either side. Inside, there is an early 19th-century entrance hall and a dogleg winder stair, along with chamfered axial ground-floor beams and an inserted axial fireplace. The left-hand house features a rear lateral fireplace. The roof contains 17th-century collar beam trusses marked by carpenters and tenoned purlins.
