Description
Springfields House, part of Springfields Academy, is a house that has been converted into a school. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and was altered in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and features end stacks and a slate hipped roof, following a double-depth plan in a late Georgian style. It has two storeys and a cellar, with a symmetrical front that includes pilaster strips, a cornice, and a parapet. The entrance features a round-arched doorway with a half-glazed door and a tented canopy supported by paired posts. The windows are 8/8-pane sashes.
Inside, the entrance hall includes an open-well stair with curtail and stick balusters, and there is a stone winder stair leading to the segmental-vaulted cellar.
