Description
No. 76 is a lodge building, now used as offices, dating from around 1820. It is constructed of squared, coursed limestone with an ashlar lateral stack and a stone slate cross-gabled roof. The building has a T-shaped single-depth plan and is designed in the Tudor Gothic Revival style. It is a single storey with an attic and features a one-window range. The coped gables on the entrance and street sides have moulded kneelers and openwork finials, along with an octagonal stack in the rear re-entrant. The entrance includes a five-centre-arched doorway flanked by niches with impost heads and a panelled door. There are four-light canted bays on the return gables, with one-light windows above and leaded lattice casements. Inside, the lodge features chamfered beams, a central entrance hall, and a winder stair. Attached to the west is a curved dwarf wall with iron railings, two capped square gate piers, and iron gates. This building was formerly the lodge to Castlefields, Castle Walk.
