Description
Clare Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located in Wootton Rivers. It features a timber frame with whitewashed brick noggings, although much of the nogging has been replaced with whitewashed brick. The cottage has a thatched roof and is primarily a single storey with an attic, but it has been heightened to two storeys. The building consists of two bays with narrow service rooms at the rear, which are located under an extension of the roof slope. The left gable displays exposed framing with slight timbers arranged in three panels high, supported by tension braces and jowled posts. The entrance is located in a brick and tiled porch that has been added at the center of the cottage. The windows are timber casements, and there is a brick chimney stack on the right gable, while the roof is half hipped to the left. Inside, there is an exposed timber-framed cross partition and a rear wall. At the back of the property, there is a thatched hipped outbuilding.
