Description

No. 78 High Street is a house with an attached coach-house, now combined into one structure. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed of red brick with blue headers in Flemish bond, while the left side is tile-hung. It features Welsh slate roofs and brick stacks. The house is two storeys tall, with the former coach-house being slightly lower, and both sections have three bays.

The house on the left has a central part-glazed panelled door beneath a bracketed hood. It has 16-pane sash windows with segmental brick arches above them, and there are stacks at each end. The former coach-house on the right includes a carriage entrance with 20th-century board doors. To the right of this entrance is a tripartite window featuring a 12-pane sash flanked by two 4-pane sashes, while there are also 12-pane sashes to the left and above; all these openings have segmental brick arches, although the ground-floor windows are of late 20th-century design.

On the left return, the ground floor is made of brick with one wide window, and the first floor is tile-hung, featuring two 20th-century 12-pane sashes in the rear range and a tripartite window in the front range with a 12-pane sash flanked by 4-pane sashes. The right return of the former coach-house has a first-floor taking-in door, which now has a late 20th-century window.
