Description
The Old Forge is a 17th-century house located on Hilldrop Lane in Ramsbury. It features a combination of rendering over brickwork and timber framing, topped with a tiled roof. The building is two stories high with four bays and has a forward extension on the right that is gabled towards the road. The entrance to the cottage is in the first bay, accessed through a boarded door. The windows include 12-pane sashes, with a tripartite arrangement in the central bay, and there are two prominent chimney stacks.
Inside, the property boasts chamfered spine beams with swept and check stops. The right end bay has a carved bracket situated between the windows, and there is open framing that leads to a former outbuilding at a higher level, which is now part of the forward extension. The Old Forge was formerly known as the Bleeding Horse Inn, which was established in the mid-18th century.
