Description

Ramsbury Hill is a house built around 1700, with early to mid-19th century additions. It features brick construction, some of which is laid in a diaper pattern, and has tiled roofs. The building is two stories high, with attics and cellars, and has a six by two bay layout. The original section is to the west, consisting of four bays with a central entrance that leads to a rear staircase. The eastern section was added in the early to mid-19th century, extending the building by three bays and incorporating the fourth bay of the earlier structure. A single-storey, fully enclosed porch from the 19th century leads to what was once the northeast room. The elevations are irregular, showcasing 12-pane sash windows with gauged brick heads and keystones in the earlier part of the building. The rear door, likely the original front door, is half-glazed and set within a tall doorcase. There is a 19th-century bow window with sashes at the rear and a canted bay window added in the later 19th century at the west end.

Inside, there is a notable 18th-century open well staircase with twisted balusters and bracketed treads. The entrance hall features a classical paper frieze and fielded panelling with reeded doorcases, dating from the 18th or 19th century. The library, which was formerly the dining room, has 19th-century panelling and bookcases added in 1964, along with a moulded cornice and a classical fire surround.
