Description
Wayside Cottage is a building that was originally used as stables and a coach house for Hillworth House, located on Hillworth Road. It dates from around 1840 and is constructed of red brick with two storeys. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, covered with slate and featuring a shallow eaves band. On the west side, there are two windows consisting of two-light flush casements with glazing bars that intersect at the top to create pointed arches for each light, along with panelled spandrels. The south side has a door with four flush panels, which is sheltered by a modern brick porch. The north front has one window similar to those on the west side, and a Neo-Tudor doorway that includes a five-panel door with cross batten detailing. There is a slate roof porch supported by wooden posts. The stable wing is also two storeys high and features one similar casement window and a loft hatch on the first floor. To the right, there are double carriage doors, while the others have been altered.
