Description
This is an 18th-century pair of buildings, altered in the 19th century, located on Long Street. The facades are stucco faced and sit upon projecting plinths. Number 31 has chamfered quoins. Both buildings have steep-pitched slate roofs, with a hipped roof to the left of number 31, as well as small modillion eaves cornices. Each building features a central sash window flanked by coupled windows on the first floor. The ground floor has coupled windows flanking the entrance. The glazing has been altered. The windows have moulded, flush frames, and the ground floor windows have 19th-century cornice hoods supported on scroll brackets. Number 31 has a recessed six-panel central door with an architrave surround and a Doric doorcase featuring engaged columns, an entablature with a dentil cornice, and a pediment. Number 32’s door has a plain arched fanlight within a deep recess with Doric pilasters and a moulded band to the arch. The front of number 31, facing Hillworth Road, has three windows on the first floor. The left-hand window has a 19th-century bracketed gable. The ground floor features a two-light window matching the main front, and a three-light 19th-century stucco bay to the left, complete with cornice and blocking course. Numbers 31 to 42 form a group.
