Description

The Conservative Club, located at No. 30 Long Street, is a mid-18th century building that stands two storeys high with an attic and cellars. It is constructed of brick on a projecting plinth topped with stone capping, featuring splayed projecting stone quoins. The building has a moulded and modillion cornice, a brick parapet with moulded stone coping, and a hipped mansard roof covered with old tiles.

There are two dormer windows with altered glazing, each framed by architrave surrounds and small cornices. The first floor has five windows with moulded stone cills and projecting surrounds, while the ground floor features four windows with similar projecting surrounds and small cornices, lacking glazing bars. Additionally, there are four cellar grilles.

The central entrance door is tall and consists of six fielded panels within a stone surround, supported by small carved stone brackets that hold a stone cornice and a curved scroll pediment adorned with rosette ornaments at the ends. The door is accessed by three moulded stone steps. To the right, there is an extension designed in the same style, which includes one window with a keystone and stone cill on the upper floors, and a blocked ground floor window with a three-centred arch, wide stone surround, springers, and keystone.

The property is set within a large garden that features fine trees, and there is a wing at the back with a stone tile roof. The interior includes notable panelling, plasterwork, and a staircase. Nos 8 to 30 Long Street form a group of buildings of architectural significance.
