Description
37 Long Street is a late 18th-century building that stands two storeys high with a basement. It is constructed of brick on a stone plinth and features narrow stone strings at both the ground and first floor sill levels. The building is topped with a moulded stone cornice and has a brick parapet with stone coping. The slate roof adds to its character.
On the first floor, there are five windows, each four panes wide, with rendered surrounds and stone sills. The ground floor has four windows, also four panes wide, which have semi-circular heads and a radiating glazing pattern. These windows are set within stone architrave surrounds that include raised springers and keystones. The central entrance features a six-panel door, which is flush with the wall and has glazed top panels. Above the door is an arched radiating fanlight, all set within a stone reveal under a stone Doric porch. This porch is supported by two fluted columns and wall pilasters, and it includes an entablature with a triglyph frieze and a modillioned cornice, topped with a blocking course.
The interior may also hold some interest. Nos 31 to 42 Long Street form a group with this building.
