Description

Nos 23 to 28 Sidmouth Street is a small terrace built around 1820, designed alongside Nos 2 and 3 Albion Place. The central buildings, Nos 25 and 26, are three storeys tall, while the flanking buildings, Nos 23, 24, 27, and 28, are two storeys with an attic, all constructed from Bath stone. The three-storey center features pilaster strips with incised panels of Soanian style, dividing the facade into three bays. There is a sill course across both floors, with the first-floor sill extending the full width of the terrace. A block cornice with an incised panel completes the central section. The two-storey wings have a similar lower cornice and mansard roofs covered in slate, each with one two-light casement dormer. Nos 23, 24, 27, and 28 each have two windows, with one being a false window except on No 24. Nos 25 and 26 have one window each, with a false window in the center. All windows feature recessed sashes with intact glazing bars. The ground floor has late 19th and 20th-century shop fronts, except for No 23, which retains its original painted stone elevation with a recessed tripartite sash window that has no glazing bars. The door is set in a shallow rectangular recess, featuring one moulded panel, a glazed section, a moulded head, and a narrow rectangular fanlight. Nos 23 to 28, along with Nos 1 to 3 Albion Place and No 29, form a cohesive group.
