Description
Nos 2 to 14 Guilder Lane are a row of 16th century timber-framed cottages, with a colourwashed brick ground floor and timber-framed upper parts featuring lath plaster infilling. The cottages at Nos 2 and 4 have stone and flint rubble bases. The return front of No 78 Winchester Street has a tile-hung first floor and exposed framing on the ground floor. The entire front facing Guilder Lane has a jettied first floor supported by curved brackets. The cottages have an old tile roof and feature ten irregular windows on Guilder Lane, mostly consisting of 19th century casements with two or three lights and two sash windows on the first floor. Most ground floor windows are flush framed sashes, with thick glazing bars on No 2. Nos 2, 4, 8, and 14 have 19th century doors with four flush panels, while others have been modernised. The front of No 78 facing Winchester Street has two small easements on the first floor, and on the ground floor, there are two modern bowed shop windows and a glazed door replacing a 19th century shop front. Nos 2 to 14 Guilder Lane form a group with Nos 56 to 78 Winchester Street.
