Description

These are two late 17th-century houses, altered later, located on St Edmund's Church Street. They are two storeys with attics, and have a stuccoed front. The roofs are steeply pitched with old tile coverings, featuring a central chimney stack. A moulded wooden cornice runs along the top of the front. Each house has a hipped roof dormer window with a moulded cornice and a two-light casement. The first floor windows are flush architraved sashes with later glazing. On the corner, each house has a similar window and a door on the ground floor. The 19th-century six-panel doors are set in panelled reveals within frames featuring plain pilasters and cornice hoods. The rear elevation has two tile-hung gable ends. These houses are part of a group with Nos 2 to 10 (even) and Nos 16 to 24 (even) on St Edmund's Church Street, including the Methodist Church. They also form a group with Nos 51 to 55 (odd) on Winchester Street.
