Description

This milestone, likely from the early 19th century, is set into the wall in front of No 29 on the north side of High Street in Dilton Marsh. It features a segmental-headed limestone pillar with a shaped cast-iron plate on the front. The raised lettering on the plate indicates the distances to Westbury (2 miles) and Bath (14 miles). The road through Dilton Marsh connecting Westbury to the Bath Road (A36) was turnpiked after 1800.
