Description

This milestone, likely from the mid to late 18th century, is located on the Bath to Cirencester road, which was turnpiked in 1743. It is a single rounded stone slab approximately 0.8 meters high, set into a wall. Attached to the stone is an iron plate that has been painted white and features embossed lettering. The inscription on the plate indicates distances: "XIII / To CIRENCESTER / III / To TETBURY / XX / To BATH". There is also a bench mark located below the plate.
