Description

This milestone, likely from the mid to late 18th century, is located about 9 meters west of number 34 on the north side of The Street in Didmarton. It marks the Bath to Cirencester road, which was turnpiked in 1743. The milestone is a single rounded stone slab approximately 1 meter high, featuring an attached iron plate that is painted white with embossed black lettering. The inscription indicates distances: "XVI / To CIRENCESTER / VI / To TETBURY / XVII / To BATH."
