Description

This milestone, located on the north side of the A433 in Didmarton, is likely from the mid to late 18th century. It marks the turnpiked road from Bath to Cirencester, established in 1743. The milestone is a single rounded stone slab approximately 0.5 meters high, featuring an attached iron plate that is painted white with embossed black lettering. The inscription indicates the distances to various locations: "XVII / To CIRENCESTER / VII / To TETBURY / XVI / To BATH".
