Description
Nos 27 and 29 on The Street are two adjoining cottages, likely built between 1854 and 1856 by architect Lewis Vulliamy. They were part of the redevelopment of Westonbirt Village by Robert Stayner Holford in preparation for the construction of Westonbirt House. The cottages are constructed from coursed stone and feature a stone slate roof with stone end and ridge stacks. They are a single range of one storey and an attic, originally designed symmetrically, but now include a 20th-century single-storey bay on the left side of No 27 and a small added canted bay.
There are four gables, with the central ones being smaller, all adorned with decorative barge boards. The windows consist of 2/1/1/2-light stone mullions with leaded casements and square hoodmoulds. Beneath the larger gables are projecting gabled porches, which also have decorative barge boards and chamfered Tudor arches, with an original plank inner door leading to No 29. To the left of the porch on No 29 is a two-light window, while the bay on No 27 is modeled after the original bay of No 11. Despite some alterations, these cottages are significant as part of the rebuilt village group that includes Nos 7-25.
