Description
Three adjoining cottages, likely dating to around 1854-6, were probably designed by Lewis Vulliamy. They were built as part of the relocation and reconstruction of Westonbirt village by Robert Stayner Holford, in preparation for the construction of Westonbirt House. The cottages are constructed of coursed stone with a stone slate roof and feature four stone chimney stacks, one of which was raised at a later date. They form a single long range with 20th-century rear extensions, and include a single storey and attic. Each cottage has two gables of uneven sizes, and the arrangement presents six bays. Windows are arranged with single lights on either side of four central, 2-light leaded stone mullion windows, each with a square hoodmould. The ground floor of each cottage has a single 2-light window, and a small projecting, gabled porch with a coped gable, kneelers, a chamfered Tudor archway, and a plank inner door. Number 23, in the centre, also has a single light immediately to the left of the porch. These cottages are significant as one of the few surviving examples of the rebuilt village group, encompassing numbers 7-29 (odd), which has remained virtually unaltered.
