Description

This milestone, located about 100 metres south of the crossroads on the east side of Westbury Road in Upton Scudamore, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top with a cast-iron plate attached to the front. The plate has raised lettering indicating the distances to Warminster (2 miles) and Westbury (2 miles). This milestone is part of a series of radial turnpikes around Warminster, with the Warminster to Westbury Road being turnpiked between 1757 and 1758.
