Description

This milestone, dating from the 18th century, is located 200 metres south of the junction with the road to Hill Deverill on the west side of Shaftesbury Road in Longbridge Deverill. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top. The milestone has a cast-iron plate that displays clear lettering indicating the distances to Warminster (3 miles) and Shaftesbury (12 miles). The road from Warminster to Shaftesbury was turnpiked in 1726.
