Description

This is a cottage in a row, dating from the mid-17th century with a rebuilding in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a concrete tiled roof, and has gable end brick stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows on the front. The ground floor has casement windows, alongside a planked door set within a 20th-century porch located to the right of centre. Two three-light recessed, chamfered mullioned casement windows are situated either side of the porch. The first floor has two three-light leaded casement windows. A two-storey extension in the 20th century is at the rear. The interior features deeply chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and an open fireplace with a chamfered cambered lintel resting on stone jambs. Surviving timber framing above the fireplace lintel and on the first floor suggests that the cottage was originally a two-bay timber-framed building with a smoke bay at the west end. An exposed truss shows a lower king strut rising directly from the beam above the fireplace lintel to the collar, with a possible missing tie-beam.
