Description
Sturgess Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century and 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a 20th-century pantiled roof and brick stacks. The building features a baffle-entry design and is two storeys high with four windows. The front includes casement windows, a four-panelled door located in a gabled porch to the left, a three-light recessed chamfered-mullioned casement, and a four-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are two two-light casements and two three-light casements, along with one three-light recessed chamfered-mullioned casement. The eaves were raised in the 1980s. The right side of the building has been rebuilt in Flemish bond brick. The rear features two and three-light casements, a three-light mullioned casement, and an early 19th-century two-storey wing with three-light casements that have flat arches and a keystone. The interior was not accessible during the survey in June 1985, but it is reported to have chamfered beams.
