Description
No. 36 The Marsh is a detached cottage dating from the late 18th century. It features a brick main front set on a stone plinth, with small squared rubble back and end walls, and some brick used for the stacks. The cottage has a thatched roof and was originally two small cottages, each with a large fireplace connected to a brick stack. Low extensions have been added to each gable, with the left extension rendered and topped with a tiled hipped roof.
The building is two storeys high and has two windows, which are 2-light wood casements with glazing bars. There is an additional window to the left of the doorway, which contains a plank door topped with a peaked hood made of slate on wooden brackets. At the back, the fenestration is similar, but there are also two small single lights with glazing bars on the ground floor. Two small extensions at the back may have originally served as privies. Inside, the cottage features two heavy bressumer fireplaces, and one of the beams is reported to carry the date 1794.
