Description

This milestone, located about 150 meters east of the lodge to Compton Park, dates from the 18th century. It is made of limestone and has a triangular-section pillar. The front faces display lettering indicating distances: "To Sarum 8" on the left side and "To Shaston 12" on the right side. At the time of the survey in March 1986, the milestone was noted to be badly sunk. The road it marks, from Salisbury to Shaftesbury, was turnpiked between 1787 and 1788.
