Description
This milestone, located about 250 metres southwest of New Barn Lodge, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and has a pentagonal shape with two faces facing the road. One side indicates "To / Shaston / VI" and the other "To / Sarum / XIV". The Salisbury to Shaftesbury road was turnpiked between 1787 and 1788 to replace an earlier route that ran along the ridgeway.
