Description
This is an early 19th-century entrance archway, originally part of the drive to Compton Park House. It was built for the Penruddocke family. The archway is constructed from dressed limestone and is in a Gothic style. It features a moulded pointed archway, flanked by square turrets. There are roundels to either side of the arch, displaying the Penruddocke family arms and the date 1658. The archway is topped by a battlemented parapet. The larger turret to the right incorporates lancet windows and a string course to the upper stage, also with a battlemented parapet. The left-hand turret also has lancet windows and a battlemented parapet, with a buttress to its left, featuring offsets. A lodge formerly attached to the left side of the archway has since been demolished.
