Description

The Maltings is an early 19th-century building, originally a malthouse, located in Westbury Leigh. It is a large, rectangular structure built of rubble stone with a slate roof. The front elevation, facing the road, features a pair of oast houses within a rectangular block and includes two upper windows. Six windows are visible on the main floor, with two lower windows that are now blocked and have modern segmental brick heads. These windows contain modern sash glazing. The roof is composed of two steep-hipped slate sections that rise to vents at the top. The rear of the building comprises a two and three-storey double range of eight bays, featuring mill windows with stone segmental heads and a central mullion. The roof has pointed double Roman tiles, coped verges, and saddlestones to the north. A barley hoist is centrally located. Covered steps are on the east side, and the overall complex forms a distinctive group. The building has recently been converted.
