26 And 28, Catherine Street

26 and 28 Catherine Street are early 19th century buildings that have been recased, likely over an earlier timber frame. They stand three storeys tall, with the upper floors covered in mathematical tiles. Number 26 features a low pitch hipped slate roof, while Number 28 has a low pitch hipped old tile roof. Both buildings have flat moulded eaves and one window each on the upper floors.

Number 26 includes a marginal glazed French window with a wood surround and a plain entablature on the second floor, leading to a balcony with wrought iron rails featuring a key pattern ornament. There is a rectangular bay window at the centre of the first floor, also with marginal glazing, framed by pilasters and topped with an entablature. A similar balcony extends on either side of the second-floor balcony. The ground floor has a later 19th-century shop front door that is set well back, flanked by pilasters, with thin mullions and a transom above plate glass windows.

Number 28 features recessed sash windows with marginal glazing on the first and second floors. The ground floor serves as the entry to the Odeon Cinema.

Together with Nos 26 to 40 (even) and Nos 46 to 54 (even), these buildings form a group.
