Description
Nos 2 and 4 Catherine Street is a building dating from the late 16th century, located on the west side of the street. It features extensive recasing of a timber frame and stands three storeys tall, with early 19th-century stucco facing on the upper floors. The building has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with boxed eaves.
On the upper floors facing Catherine Street, there are five windows, with flush framed sashes on the first floor and two false windows, all retaining their glazing bars. The early to mid-19th-century shop window frames are flanked by pilasters, with additional pilasters beside the house door. A blind case has been inserted in the frieze. The return front to New Canal includes two windows on the upper floors, with flush framed sashes and intact glazing bars on the first floor, as well as two rectangular bays on the first floor. The shop front on this side has an entrance set back under the corner and was altered in the early 20th century.
Nos 2 to 16 (even) form a group.
