Description
17 and 19 Catherine Street is a late 18th century to early 19th century building featuring a mathematical tile front that conceals a 16th century timber framed structure. The building stands three storeys tall, topped with a parapet and a band cornice. The upper floors have three windows, with flush framed sashes on the second floor and taller sashes in the centre and left on the first floor, all retaining their glazing bars and featuring flat rendered arches. On the right side of the first floor, there is a shallow canted bay with glazing bars only on the upper sashes, and a moulded cornice supported by small paired brackets. The ground floor has a modern shop front. Inside, the first floor room includes a carved 18th century fireplace, and a small late 18th century staircase remains leading to the second floor. The roof still has its original trusses, collars, and clasped purlins. Nos 7 to 19 form a group.
