Description

The Dial House is a building that originally consisted of two cottages, now combined into one house. It dates from the early 18th century, with 19th and early 20th-century alterations. The structure is made of coursed dressed limestone and features a tiled roof with gable end ashlar stacks that have moulded cappings. The house is arranged in a U-plan and is two stories high, with a five-window front.

The early 20th-century doorway is framed by an architrave with a broken pediment and features a door with six fielded panels set in a recessed porch. To the left on the ground and first floors of the 18th-century section, there is a single recessed chamfered window. The right side has a mix of windows from the 19th century, including two-light, three-light, and a single chamfered mullioned window, along with two 2-light, one-light, and three-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows on the first floor.

The two parallel end ranges have coped verges. The left side has two 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows on both the ground and first floors, along with a string course at the first floor level and a stone sundial. The right side features a planked door and early 20th-century one-light and two-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows on both floors. The rear and interior were not accessible during the survey conducted in March 1985.
