Description
This milestone, located about 50 metres south of St Denys, is likely from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top with incised lettering on the front that reads "IV / Miles from / SHASTON." The left side of the pillar has the inscription "EAST KNOYLE." The road from Shaftesbury to East Knoyle was turnpiked in 1753, making this milestone part of one of the earliest turnpike trusts in South Wiltshire.
