EAST KNOYLE SHAFTESBURY ROAD ST 82 NE (east side) 10/51 Milestone about 50 metres south of St Denys GV II Milestone. Probably late C18. Limestone pillar with pitched top and incised lettering to front: IV / Miles from / SHASTON, lettering to left side: EAST KNOYLE. Shaftesbury to East Knoyle road turnpiked 1753, one of the earliest turnpike trusts in South Wiltshire. (VCH, Wiltshire, Vol 4, 1959)
