Description
The Wyndham enclosure in the burial ground at East Knoyle is a family burial enclosure built around 1912 by Detmar Blow for the Wyndham family of Clouds House. It features limestone dwarf walls that enclose a square area on two sides, with the south side bordered by a higher ashlar wall topped with coping. This wall includes five pedimented inscription tablets, one of which commemorates Percy Wyndham, the builder of Clouds House, who died in 1911. The north side of the enclosure is open to the rest of the burial ground.
At the center of the enclosure stands an octagonal cross on a square base, topped with a carved crocketed finial depicting the Calvary. Inside, there are several family graves, including two marked with bronze-covered horizontal wooden crosses featuring raised Art Nouveau style lettering. One grave has a bronze cover with an angel for Edwina Wyndham, who died in 1919, and another is enclosed by a cast-iron railing decorated with angels and guilloche for George Wyndham, who died in 1915. The inscription tablets set in the south wall honor other family members, with several remaining unused.
