Description

Paddock Wood is a detached cottage dating to the late 17th century, with alterations and extensions added in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of dressed limestone, with a tiled roof and brick stacks. The gable end faces the lane. The cottage is two storeys high and has a four-window front. A ledged door is located to the left of centre, with a two-light casement window to the left and two three-light casements to the right. The first floor has four two-light casements, all fitted with 19th-century cast iron latticing. The right return has a four-light casement window to the ground floor and a segmental-headed cast iron casement window to the first floor. A 19th-century lean-to addition with a fishscale tiled roof extends from the side, along with a 20th-century two-storey wing to the left. The left return features Flemish bond brickwork on the first floor, with a two-light cast iron casement window. The interior includes deep chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on chamfered stone jambs, and a bread oven.
