Description
Foggins Cottage is a Grade II listed building that originally consisted of two cottages, now combined into one. It dates from the 17th century, with rebuilding noted on a datestone on the front that reads "C I / 1756". The structure is built of English garden wall bond brick set on a rubble stone plinth, topped with a thatched roof that has a half-hip on the left side and features brick stacks on the right and in the center.
The cottage is two stories high and has three windows. The entrance includes a ledged door on the left and a planked door on the right. There is one single-light window and two 2-light casements on the ground floor. The first floor features a dentil brick band, a single-light casement on the right, and a large eyebrow dormer on the left, which contains two small 2-light casements and the datestone. An external chalk and brick stack with offsets is located on the right return.
The rear wall is constructed of chalk rubble stone on the left side and brick on the right. It has a 20th-century door on the left and two 3-light casements on the right, with three 2-light casements on the first floor. Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams, a restored open fireplace, and some planked or four-panelled doors.
