Description

Cress Cottage is an 18th-century detached cottage located in Sherrington village. The exterior is dressed limestone with a thatched roof, featuring a brick stack to the left gable end and another to the right of centre. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, and has two windows visible from the front. A central planked door is sheltered by a wooden hood, with a three-light casement window on either side. Two eyebrow dormers, each containing a three-light casement, are visible on the roof. A single-storey addition is present on the right side, with a three-light top-hung casement window. A 20th-century lean-to extension is also attached. The left return side shows a large external brick stack, with a section of the wall constructed from chalk blocks; an earlier, lower roofline is visible. A rear outshut includes a 20th-century dormer. Inside, a blocked open fireplace with a bread oven can be found.
